Check out this TV ad from Intel. Seems the guy they portraid as Ajay Bhatt, one of the principal engineers behind the development of USB, was a fake. They used an actor in his place!
This is the real Ajay Bhatt…

Its a great ad. People always look for actors and sports personalities in ads. but intel has tried to make another point her – its not these actors or sports guys who change the world but real hard working, super talented guys in silicon valley.

Except this guy didn’t invent the USB. The idea belonged to Wynn Smith who came up with upstream/downstream in 1990. Wynn worked at Intel as part of the Hunacre group. The Hunacre group patented upstream/downstream and the original prototype for USB is in possession of Ralph Smith, a Hunacre engineer.
Intel couldn’t see the future potential for USB and shut the project down. Ajay Bhatt apparently, picked it up years later, but it wasn’t his concept.
Hm...

Mr. MKH,
Tell me one thing.
Ajay Bhatt did know what has already happened in Intel or he did not know?
If he did not know, how do you say it’s not his idea?
Everyday when we struggle to do some things we come across so many ideas and its the fault and bad luck of that guy who did not pursue it.
Does it mean in another part of the world or same part of the world if someone else also bump into the same idea you would think its not his/her own idea.
This is so cheap.

I really have no idea if anyone knew a patent already existed for the concept. Either they knew and moved it forward anyway, (the Hunacre group was part of Intel so maybe Intel didn’t need permission?) or somehow it was overlooked. Either way, the patent on the upstream/downstream technology was placed (years before Ajay Bhatt discovered it or had the same idea,) by the Hunacre group and/or it’s engineers.
When I saw the commercial it made me wonder why they credited the wrong guy so I asked Wynn. Not even Intel thought USB had any potential in 1990 so Wynn pursued other ideas. I wouldn’t call it his “fault” and he isn’t looking for recognition. It’s just the kind of little known irony many modest men live with.
Why are 'we' fighting ??

Well who ever was the first; I am sure neither Ajay Bhatt nor Wynn will be bothered by these comments. They will continue focusing on their work-passion !
