sheikh-saad-terminal

Well, the simple answer is “in the middle of nowhere”.

I’m sure anyone who has traveled on Wataniya Airways for the first time would have asked that question. There are sign boards pointing in the direction of this terminal all along the 55 and 50 but not a single sign on the 51. It took me 30 mins to find the damn place. I was quite worried since all the sign boards along the road to the terminal  read “restricted area” and “air force”.

When I drove in there, no one in the “un-identifiable” Valet parking drop-off  spot knew English and from the little Arabic I understood of what they were yelling, I just drove ahead and parked in the paid parking lot ahead. Luckily that guy was nice enough to tell me that I need to wait for a while near the first class entrance till someone comes and helps me. So drove all the way back and after waiting for 15 mins, someone did come by.

Only after flashing my First Class ticket, I was fussed over and started to enjoy the Wataniya Airways experience. Next time I’ll try driving there in a Rolls Royce, just to see if it makes any difference. ;)

Looks like the site was updated today with a map to the terminal.

us-dates-expensive-sultan-center

“Imported exclusively for you” …really!

Who would want to pay KD 6/- for US dates when the best of Kuwaiti and Saudi dates are available for less than KD 3/-

Sometimes I wonder if these people at Sultan Center are just mad!

hummer-cycles

Can this be true. Hummer is going eco-friendly and selling mean looking cycles!

rickshaw-website

This seems unbelievable to a lot of people, but personally, I think Samson is probably the smartest “TukTuk” / Rickshaw driver. Check out his website. Very enterprising!

kayak-flight-scam

Found this via PhocusWright. If you search on Kayak for a one-way Sydney to Los Angeles on 22-Sep-2010, you will see the most expensive one-way coach flight ever… KWD 1,400/-.

If you try to book that flight, it gives you everything but a booking page! Give it a go. More airlines need to have a similar sense of humor. :)

toyota-pedal-recall

Seems Toyota screwed up somewhere and is now recalling millions of cars due to a pedal malfunction. [link]

According to the site, if the pedal does get stuck, you need to use both feet to step on the brake… one foot will not do? :)

carrefour-technology-promotion

The subject of this Carrefour newsletter read “Exciting Electronics Promotion up for grabs”. But when I opened the mail this is the image I saw. A box of oranges and detergent!!! So where do we plug in these? :)

Well it was on the to-do list and last week we finally got to check it out. Booked those tickets online and reached 1 hour early at 360 to grab a quick bite and check out the Gulf Run display.

We picked seats right at the top so we wouldn’t have to deal with the flying pop corn or the fizzy drink splashes. We were handed these huge IMAX glasses which were pretty funny and since everyone was taking pictures with these glasses on, we took a few too. In a few seconds this usher comes up and tells me to stop taking pictures. OK. But how come only I have to stop taking pictures? Supposedly, I was seated below some contraption that would get affected by the flash. Yeah right! Or maybe his Indian ass was too scared to tell all the Arabs around us to stop taking pictures.

Anyway, the movie started and it was a great experience. At 2 points during the movie everything went blank! Oh yeah, we were in Kuwait and that was how they censored the movie. There was more laughter during those two blank screen moments than the rest of the movie. Everyone found the censorship odd. Guess there isn’t a better way to censor an IMAX movie. :) There is some info on their censorship tech on BlogAllAlong.

The weird thing is that during the movie, if you look around, no one notices you looking at them since those huge 3D glasses block their side vision. Everyone is just glued to the screen. I guess offices and maybe schools should allot similar glasses to staff/students so they don’t get distracted easily. Something to think about!
