This could be the best ever invention of all time. Design your own chocolate and then print it. No more struggling with cones and other baking paraphernalia. I love the concept of 3d printers and using chocolate is just genius.

I can see this becoming the most popular form of birthday cakes. Take your favorite cell phone game and make it into an interactive birthday cake. Playing with food will be a whole new game now.

I was quite surprised to see Wrigley’s 5 gum  at Sultan Center yesterday. They had all 5 original flavors in stock. I just had to grab my share. This is the first time I’ve seen it in Kuwait. It’s available mostly in the US or Europe and is one of the best chewing gums I’ve ever had. Hope they keep them in stock all year round. Although its little pricey here, its still worth it.

Well, it all started while we popped into City Center Salmiya for some quick shopping. We came across this “Kissing Booth” setup just for Christmas. Outside the booth, I noticed this Christmas tree decorated in little Hershey’s Kisses ornaments.

And then I thought, how great it would be to have a mistletoe made of these little kisses chocolates. So I “googled” a bit and found a new word …Kissletoe! It’s what you call a mistletoe made out of Hershey’s Kisses.

The crafts section on the Heyshey’s website actually tells you how to build one. I took the liberty of copying the same here…

Supplies:

• 2 3-inch Styrofoam balls
• Wired ribbon
• HERSHEY’S KISSES Chocolates

Instructions:

1. Using a pen or pencil, push through each ball to make a hole through the center of the ball (from end to end).
2. Feed the ribbon through the first ball and knot at the bottom.
3. Leave a couple of inches of ribbon above first ball and tie another knot, then feed the ribbon through the second ball setting it on second knot, leave several inches of ribbon again, and then tie a bow in the top.
4. Using hot glue, glue KISSES on each ball. When dry, you can hang your Kissletoe at the bow end.

Pickup a Kuwait Flour Mills loaf of bread these days and the first thing you will notice is the new “FSMS Certification” advertisement. Looks more like an ad for Bureau Veritas.

Anyway, its good to know that good ol KFM is taking food safety seriously. Have been eating their breads since I can remember and have never had any reason to doubt their quality.

So we were in the mood for ribs. And since Ruby Tuesday is our favorite “ribs” joint, off we went.

After placing our order, they came back explaining that their ribs got over during the afternoon service and none were left for us.

Not sure if it’s their policy or it was the sad face Ro put on after the “No Ribs” news, but this huge free dessert bowl of cake and ice cream showed up. I love it when restaurants go the extra mile to make sure their customers aren’t dissatisfied in any way.

And the dessert was great. Now that we’ve tasted their tall cake, we’ll have to order it along with our ribs next time.

What comes to your mind when you first look at this?

I guess the chaps at China Kitchen are not keen on presentation.

Look at that tray of delicious mouth watering desserts in the background. Don’t you just wanna get up from your table and bite in.

Well, if your dining at P. F. Changs, and you see that tray, don’t bite! The rascals leave this lying near your table till you start drooling and when you ask them for a bite, they tell you it’s plastic. Yep, just a show piece.

Well, you could order it but by the time you’ve stuffed yourself with Dynamite this, Dragon that and the Mongolian other, there isn’t any place left for the Great Wall of Chocolate.

It all started when Ro and I were walking down Geant’s  baking section at the 360 mall. There were some great offers on these “out of a box” cake products and one thing led to another and I ended up promising to bake a cake. So we came home with Betty Crocker’s Super Moist chocolate cake mix and a few baking goodies.

The instructions are real simple and easy to follow. Al you really need for the cake is some water, oil, 3 eggs and the cake powder in the box. Mix them all together, put it in a baking tray and shove it in the oven for 30 mins.

First lesson learnt while baking… if the toothpick keeps coming out sticky every 5 mins for half an hour, then the oven is probably off. I have no clue how or when the oven went off, but it was pretty embarrassing to figure out the cake wasn’t baking since there was no heat. Anyway, about 25 mins later the cake was finally ready and the whole house was smelling of chocolate.

Ro helped make the chocolate Ganache topping. Again, a very simple procedure. 1.5 bag of Hershey’s semi-sweet chocolate chips, some thick cream and a little milk mixed slowly over a double boiler. Took about 5 mins. And it tasted great. All I need is one of those pots with a candle below it and guess who ain’t going to  Chocolate Bar anymore for Fondue.

Second lesson learnt… although the chocolate is cool, the double boiler is HOT, very HOT! Use cooking gloves …or someone else’s hand at all times.

Topping the cake with the Ganache was fun … and messy, but worth it.

And finally, the serving. One slice of my oven fresh cake, one scoop of Tiramisu ice-cream and a generous topping of dark chocolate sauce all over … simply DELISH!

Picked up these rotis last night. The date on the bag read 15th June. But yesterday was 14th June. Maybe someone used a time machine to bring these back from the future!

I wonder if this is general practice since I hadn’t noticed this before. Looks more like they are bullshitting the buyers. Then again the rotis were great, so I’m not pressing any charges.
